Medeama Sporting Club's head coach, Augustine Evans Adotey, expressed deep disappointment as his team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Young Africans Sporting Club (YANGA) in their recent CAF Champions League group stage match in Tanzania.
The loss marks Medeama's second defeat in four games and places them at the bottom of Group D.
Speaking after the match, Coach Adotey acknowledged the woeful failure of his team's quest to secure three points against YANGA.
The Yellow and Mauve side had previously drawn 1-1 with YANGA at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi during the first leg.
The match in Tanzania witnessed striker Jonathan Sowah facing a challenging performance. In the 56th minute, Sowah missed a penalty kick attempt when Medeama was trailing 1-0.
To compound matters, he received a second yellow card offence in the 90th minute, resulting in his dismissal from the game.
The defeat places Medeama in a challenging position in Group D as they head into an extensive break due to the 2023 AFCON.
The team will need to regroup and strategize for the remaining matches in the CAF Champions League group stage to enhance their chances of advancing.
Coach Adotey, while expressing disappointment, is likely to focus on analyzing the team's performance and addressing areas of improvement during the break.
The upcoming matches will be crucial for Medeama as they aim to bounce back and make a significant impact in the CAF Champions League.
“The game is over. The ambition of Medeama to take away a point or the three maximum points unfortunately failed. We have two more games…We shall fight for the remaining six points” he stated.
Medeama plays Al-Ahly and Belouizdad in the remaining CAF Champions League Group D games on February 23 and March 1 respectively.
