Former Ghana Football Association president, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has confessed to paying $100,000 to investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas in a bid to prevent the release of an incriminating investigative video.
The revelation comes in the wake of Nyantakyi's downfall in June 2018, following the release of the video investigation conducted by Anas, which exposed Nyantakyi and other football officials for compromising the integrity of the game on a massive scale.
Nyantakyi, who subsequently resigned from all his roles at the GFA, CAF, and FIFA, was handed a lifetime ban from football, later reduced to 15 years.
According to Nyantakyi, Anas demanded $150,000 through his lawyers to suppress the video's release, but he could only provide $100,000. Despite his payment, the video was ultimately released.
Nyantakyi disclosed that a former colleague at the GFA Exco, Adam Munkaila, introduced him to Anas' lawyers, who conveyed the demand for $150,000. Despite his efforts, Nyantakyi claimed he received only partial refunds in instalments after the video's release.
In a recent interview with Captain Smart on Onua TV, Nyantakyi expressed his intention to contest in the Ejisu by-election on the NPP ticket following the demise of the area's Member of Parliament, John Kumah.
