Mr Mustapha Ussif, Minister of Youth and Sports (MoYS), has refuted rumours surrounding the delayed arrival of equipment for the 13th African Games, addressing concerns raised by athletes competing in cycling and badminton.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the minister clarified, stating, “We have provided equipment to all the confederations and federations. The equipment for the games was procured and delivered to all the federations.”
Ussif explained that any challenges faced by federations during the games stemmed from their failure to submit a comprehensive list of required equipment to the ministry.
He emphasized that the procured equipment met international standards, highlighting the importance of seizing the opportunities presented by the 13th African Games for Ghana.
The minister disclosed that the ministry allocated over $500,000 for purchasing equipment for the basketball federation alone, ensuring modern and world-standard equipment for future competitions.
Ussif assured that both the MoYS and the Local Organizing Committee were dedicated to resolving challenges encountered during the games, emphasizing equitable attention to all federations to support their medal aspirations.
