Fatal accident on Tarkwa-Takoradi highway claims young motor rider's life

Tragedy struck on the - highway in the as a young motor rider, identified as Bismark Ayariga, lost his life in a fatal . Ayariga, believed to be 22 years old, was riding an unregistered Haojin motorbike when the occurred at Akyempim.

According to reports from the (GNA), the accident took place around the premises of Mospaka Company Limited on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at approximately 7:20 am. The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) in received a distress call regarding the incident.

Upon arrival at the scene, MTTD personnel discovered Ayariga lying in a pool of blood, having sustained severe head injuries from the impact of the accident. The collision involved a Toyota Corolla car with registration number WR 368-20, Ayariga's unregistered motorbike, and a tricycle.

Investigations revealed that the driver of the Toyota Corolla, identified as Stacey Arthur-Ewusie, was attempting to join the main road after purchasing Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) at a filling station opposite Mospaka Company Limited. However, due to a trailer truck parked at the gas filling station's entrance, Arthur-Ewusie's view was obstructed, leading to the collision with Ayariga's motorbike and the tricycle.

While Arthur-Ewusie escaped unhurt, Ayariga tragically lost his life at the scene. Arthur-Ewusie has been granted bail to aid police investigations, and the trailer driver, responsible for the wrongful parking, will also be investigated.

The accident vehicles, including the damaged car and motorbike, have been impounded at the Tarkwa police station yard for further examination and testing. Meanwhile, Ayariga's body has been deposited at the Apinto Government Hospital mortuary for preservation.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers on the road and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations to prevent such tragic accidents.
