The National Ambulance Service (NAS) Public Relations Unit, in collaboration with the Greater Accra Regional Administration, has undertaken a series of activities to educate Ghanaians on the need to have some knowledge of basic first aid techniques.
One such activity took place at Madonna Seat of Wisdom School in Ashongman Estate, Accra, where pupils and teachers were trained in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Choking Management, and Blood Control techniques.
Over 250 pupils and staff benefited from the training.
Mr. Simmons Yussif Kewura, Deputy Director of Public Relations for NAS, shared insights into the establishment of the National Ambulance Service in 2004 following the Accra sports stadium disaster.
He emphasized the service's growth from 7 ambulance stations to 296 stations nationwide.
Mr. Kewura highlighted the core mandate of the service, including pre-hospital emergency care services and public safety during national disasters. He underscored the importance of dialling 112 for emergency ambulance assistance.
PAEMT Daniel Asare, Greater Accra Regional Administrative Manager for NAS, explained that the training aimed to equip the school with essential skills for handling emergencies.
Mr. Dominic Ofosu, a teacher at Madonna School and one of the organizers, expressed satisfaction with the Basic Life Support training, noting that it positioned them well for potential emergency situations.
