Preparations are in full swing for the upcoming presidential primary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the New Juaben South constituency, with approximately 990 delegates set to cast their votes on November 4, 2023.
The delegates will comprise a diverse group, including constituency party executives, polling station election coordinators, and polling station executives, among others.
Providing an update on the progress made, Alhaji Abubakar Alhassan (B Wassa), the constituency secretary of the party, noted that the 10 council of elders were not part of the 990 delegates. He mentioned that they are awaiting a decision from the national level regarding their inclusion.
The chosen venue for the elections is the Koforidua Secondary Technical Senior High School, where all delegates and party supporters are expected to gather for the polls.
Alhaji Abubakar Alhassan stressed the importance of maintaining a calm and respectful atmosphere during campaigning and other activities related to the primary. He encouraged party members to express their preferences and opinions without allowing the election to divide their ranks.
He remarked, “After all said and done, we will need every party member to rally behind the elected flagbearer to execute the 2024 agenda.”
Alhaji Abubakar Alhassan emphasized that elections provided delegates with the opportunity to choose their leader, urging them to be mindful of their words and actions. He also called on delegates and party functionaries to avoid any actions that could undermine the unity and strength required for the forthcoming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
