Northern Ghana regions adopt indicators for Agenda 55 reporting: Ghana News

The five Regional Coordinating Councils (RCCs) in northern Ghana have officially accepted nine crucial indicators as part of Agenda 55.

These indicators are designed to ensure that all 55 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) within their regions accurately report on various vital aspects.

Starting at the end of this year, MMDAs are expected to report on these nine indicators, and as they plan for the next fiscal year, the Annual Action Plans for 2025, they must incorporate strategies aligned with Agenda 55 into their work plans.

The nine indicators cover a range of critical issues, including gender equality, child protection, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), child abuse, and legal frameworks promoting equality and non-discrimination.

These indicators have been drawn from the Integrated Social Services (ISS) Indicators, the Medium-Term Development Plans of MMDAs, and the District League Table, with the aim of effectively reporting on them to contribute to the achievement of the (SDGs).

The decision to accept these indicators was made during a meeting held in , attended by Chief Directors and Regional Economic Planning Officers from the five RCCs (Northern, , , , and Regions), and the (NDPC).

This meeting was organized by Norsaac, a civil society organization, with funding support from in Ghana as part of Agenda 55, a platform established in 2022 to co-create evidence on protecting girls from SGBV and accelerate the implementation of policies addressing SGBV in all 55 MMDAs in the northern regions.

The Agenda 55 initiative also aims to strengthen the implementation of government policies, institutions, and partnerships in response to the SDGs.

To ensure the enforceability of these indicators, it was agreed during the meeting that the NDPC would write to the five RCCs to encourage MMDAs within their areas to commence reporting on the indicators.

Mr. Charles Konglo, Principal Planning Analyst at NDPC, emphasized the importance of integrating the gender dimension into national policy formulation, planning, and monitoring, guided by evidence from Agenda 55.

He urged the MMDAs to forge partnerships for combating gender-based violence at the local level and maintain periodic dialogues around gender-based violence.

Regional officials echoed the need for close collaboration between the gender desk social welfare officers and planning officers at the MMDAs to ensure effective reporting on the indicators.

The initiative seeks to provide accurate data on issues affecting young people, particularly, to address them effectively.

Mr. James Kudjo Nachibu, Social Protection Programme Manager at Norsaac, emphasized the importance of working together with the RCCs and the MMDAs to ensure the correct reporting of the Agenda 55 indicators and fostering peer review sessions to share experiences and challenges in implementation.
