Nanton and Karaga Districts, Northern Region – The Anglican Diocesan Development and Relief Organisation (ADDRO), in partnership with the Ghana Health Service, conducted a breast screening and awareness campaign for women in the Nanton and Karaga Districts.
This initiative is part of ADDRO's “Movements That Matter (MTM)” project, funded by Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) USA, focusing on Early Childhood Development.
The exercise's main objective was to educate caregivers within the project about the early signs, dangers, and prevention of breast cancer.
Mr. John Patrick Atampugre, the Northern Regional MTM Project Officer, emphasized the significance of including breast cancer awareness in this initiative, which primarily targets women.
A total of 388 caregivers received breast cancer screenings and were educated about the disease across the districts.
Remarkably, 32 male beneficiaries participated in the event, highlighting the importance of raising awareness about health issues among all caregivers.
During the screenings in both districts, six suspected cases of breast cancer were identified. These cases were referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further evaluation and necessary follow-up.
Madam Mahamud Ayisha, a Public Health Nurse in the Nanton District, led the awareness campaign at Tampion. She emphasized the need for participants to promptly report any changes they notice in their breasts.
She assured the community that local health facilities are prepared to provide necessary assistance, urging women to stay vigilant about their breast health and seek help when required.
