The Oguaa Traditional Council has called on residents, businesses, and investors to collaborate in their efforts to drive development in the historic city of Cape Coast.
The city, renowned as a hub of education and a prominent tourism destination in Ghana, boasts rich natural resources, making it a promising investment opportunity.
The city offers access to the Atlantic Ocean, abundant fishing, fertile lands for mechanized farming, and picturesque beachfront areas bordering lush hills and lagoons, all complemented by the warm hospitality of the region. These assets make Cape Coast an attractive place for investment.
Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, Omanhen of the Oguaa Traditional Area, made this appeal in response to development concerns raised by stakeholders during an Executive Business Forum held in Cape Coast.
The event, organized jointly by the Traditional Council and the Ridge Royal Hotel, aimed to gather insights on transforming Cape Coast into a leading investment destination in Ghana.
The forum included participants from security agencies, corporate entities, fishers, traders, and the media, as part of a comprehensive strategy to revitalize Cape Coast in line with its history as the former capital of Ghana.
Osabarimba Atta emphasized the city's potential as an investment-friendly destination with a welcoming business environment and attractive offerings for mutual benefit.
He encouraged prospective investors, both local and international, to consider Cape Coast and the Central Region as they expand their businesses.
Addressing other issues, Osabarimba Atta expressed concerns about indiscipline and laziness among some of the youth, which he perceived as an obstacle to the city's progress. He called on young people to cultivate discipline to stand out in the job market.
He also pledged to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and the Metropolitan Assembly to enhance security measures, thereby ensuring peace and safety for residents.
He called on citizens to play their part by reporting suspicious activities to security agencies for prompt action.
On the topics of health and the environment, Osabarimba Atta revealed plans to renovate the Bakaano Metro Hospital, which had fallen into disrepair due to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean and years of inadequate maintenance.
He also announced the deployment of 40 security guards to work alongside city guards in safeguarding the beaches against unauthorized sand mining, open defecation, and other illegal activities.
He urged residents to prioritize hygiene to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.
Osabarimba Atta also emphasized the importance of parents taking a keen interest in the activities of their children to ensure their safety and well-being.
He commended various businesses, particularly traders in local markets, and called on the government to support them in obtaining loans to expand their businesses.
Stakeholders at the forum expressed their commitment to work with traditional authorities to lead development but also raised concerns about the high cost of living, teenage pregnancy, security issues, healthcare infrastructure, and education, among other matters.
