Registrar General’s Department reports 2,103 marriages in 2023: Ghana News

The (RGD) has released data indicating that a total of 2,103 marriages were registered in 2023, with January seeing the highest number of nuptials at 214.

The data provides insights into both internal and external marriages recorded throughout the year.

Internally, the RGD recorded 1,978 marriages, with the lowest figure of 105 in September. Externally, the department registered 130 marriages, with January again leading with 29 marriages. The statistics were made available to the .

The offers an affordable, seamless, and prompt marriage registration process. Governed by the Marriages Act (Cap 127), marriages under the ordinance are civil partnerships, completely secular and non-religious.

The process requires couples to give notice to the Marriage Registrar in the district where the marriage will occur.

The Registrar publishes a notice of marriage, and if no objection is raised within 21 days, a certificate is issued.

The marriage certificate must be presented to a licensed marriage officer, and the couple must marry within three months for the certificate to remain valid.

The prescribed Declaration Form is available for applicants, and witnesses are required if the marriage is to be celebrated at the Registrar General's Department.

The data provides a comprehensive overview of marriage trends in the country, reflecting the popularity of different months for marital unions.
