Sekondi College stripped of Best Farming Award, awarded to actual winner: Ghana News

The Sekondi- Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has withdrawn the 2023 Overall Best Institution award initially given to Sekondi College (SECKO) after investigations revealed that the original awardee presented exhibits that did not belong to him personally.

The award ceremony, part of the 39th edition of the Farmers' Day celebration, was intended to recognize outstanding contributions to agricultural production within the Metropolis. Mr. Stephen Osagyefo Rowell, the Head of the Agricultural Department of SECKO, had received the award but was later stripped of it.

Madam Grace Alswell-Aidoo, Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the STMA, explained that the initial awardee misled the Assembly by presenting farms belonging to the College as his own.

After investigations, the rightful winner, Sekondi College, was awarded to encourage continued excellence in the agricultural sector.

Mr. Daniel Asimenu, Director of Agriculture at the STMA, emphasized that the award aimed to motivate SECKO to persist in making strides in the agricultural sector.

He urged other institutions to follow SECKO's example by integrating academic work with agricultural activities.

Ms. Guddy A. Kermah, the Head of the College, expressed gratitude for the STMA's corrective actions.

She highlighted SECKO's history in since 2003 and reiterated the school's commitment to receiving more significant awards in the future.

This year's Farmers Day celebration, themed “Delivering Smart Solutions for Sustainable and Resilience,” saw Sekondi College receiving various prizes, including knapsack sprayers, wellington boots, cutlasses, bags of organic fertilizer, a motor tricycle, and a certificate of recognition.
