Mr Fuseini Yakubu Batong, the Sissala East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has handed over a site for the construction of a dam at Bakuala, a farming community near Tumu.
The MCE officially handed over the project to the contractor during a ceremony held in Bakula.
Mr Batong urged the community to commit themselves to the completion of the project, emphasizing the importance of starting before the intensification of the rains.
He announced that community members working as labourers at the dam site would be paid GH¢15.00 per day, as a way for the government to support and empower them.
Mr Yahaya Uzaidu, a representative of Muzaji Company Limited, the assigned contractor, promised to deliver quality work.
Mr Awal Eashau, Focal Person of the Safety Net project and Senior Development Officer stated that construction would continue throughout the week to ensure early completion.
Kuoro Mahmoud Savei, the Divisional Chief of Kong, highlighted the government's limited capacity to support everyone, which necessitated the introduction of self-help projects.
The Kong kuoro urged the community to actively participate in the project, as it would complement farming activities and provide a water source for gardening and animals.
