Takoradi, Western Region, Ghana – Delegates and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Takoradi Constituency in the Western Region have voiced their delight in choosing Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the party's flagbearer for the 2024 elections.
Mr Emmanuel Kwabla Torkornoo, the Constituency Secretary, expressed his confidence in Dr Bawumia's leadership abilities, stating that the Vice President was competent enough to lead the party to victory in the upcoming general elections.
He emphasized that Dr Bawumia was their surest bet to “break-the-eight,” referring to the party's ambition to secure a third consecutive term in office.
Mr Torkornoo cited the Vice President's significant contributions to both the party and the government, highlighting his knowledge and vision, which they believe will offer renewed hope to Ghanaians.
Torkornoo underlined the importance of unity within the party and called on the other losing aspirants and their supporters to put aside their differences and work together towards a common goal for the party's greater good.
He stated, “Finally, the most important internal elections in the party are over, and we have to find the strength to forgive whatever was said against each other and move forward because the showdown is against NDC come December 7, 2024.”
Regarding the choice of a running mate, Mr. Torkornoo expressed readiness to support anyone Dr. Bawumia selects and urged the Vice President to announce his running mate as early as possible to ensure adequate preparation for the elections.
Mr. Torkornoo acknowledged the current economic challenges in the country but remained optimistic about the government's ability to navigate through these challenges with stringent economic policies, ultimately providing relief to the Ghanaian people.
