Professor John Frank Eshun, the Vice Chancellor of Takoradi Technical University (TTU), announced the accreditation of six new Master of Technology (MTech) programs during the university's 23rd Congregation.
The accredited programs include Innovation and Enterprise Development, Mechanical Engineering, Power Production Systems and Integration, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Mathematics and Statistics, and Construction Engineering Management.
Professor Eshun emphasized the significance of accreditation and reaccreditation in ensuring that academic programs at TTU meet regulatory standards, enhancing teaching and learning, and improving graduates' employability in a globally competitive environment.
The 2022/2023 Academic Year witnessed a 30 percent increase in graduands, totaling 6,166, reflecting the university's commitment to academic excellence.
The Vice Chancellor reaffirmed TTU's dedication to providing quality education, fostering industry partnerships, and empowering graduates.
He highlighted the university's initiatives, including upgrading the Jubilee Field Technical Training Center as a Center of Excellence in Oil and Gas Engineering and leading research collaborations with institutions globally.
Additionally, a four-storey ICT complex is under construction to meet digitalization needs, and TTU is collaborating with the Maritime Institute of Palermo, Italy, through the European Union-funded Twin-Cities in Sustainable Partnership Project to establish a Maritime Training Centre.
Dr. Samuel Amo Tobin, the Council Chair of the University, appealed for government support in infrastructure development to accommodate the growing student population.
Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, reiterated the government's commitment to increasing Ghana's Gross Tertiary Education Ratio, launching the ‘No Guarantor Students Loan Policy,' and providing funding for Technical Universities.
Dr. Adutwum praised TTU's efforts in research, practical education, and international partnerships, assuring that government projects would be completed on time.
He stated, “I am pleased to see the university's commitment to research and its partnership with stakeholders both locally and internationally, which is essential in providing students with the practical, hands-on experience they need to succeed in the workforce.”
