In Senya Bereku, located in the Awutu Senya West district of the Central Region, two thieves narrowly escaped lynching after a series of robberies targeting students attending an inter-school competition.
The incident unfolded during the competition, where students from approximately six schools had gathered. Along a bushy stretch leading to the competition grounds, reports emerged of students being constantly robbed of their phones and other valuables by a group of town boys.
In response to the repeated thefts, the victims devised a plan to recover their stolen items. They used one of the female students as bait, sending her to the spot where the thieves typically lay in wait. As expected, the thieves attacked the female student with machetes and other weapons, demanding her valuables.
However, the students who had orchestrated the plan swiftly intervened, ambushing the thieves and subjecting them to a severe beating. The commotion attracted the attention of teachers, who alerted the local police commander.
Upon receiving the report, the police promptly deployed officers to the scene. Although four of the thieves managed to flee before the police arrived, two were apprehended. The police recovered eleven phones from the captured thieves.
The authorities have urged students to report to the police station to identify and retrieve their stolen phones. Meanwhile, the two apprehended thieves are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations into the incident.
