The second edition of the Upper East Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards is set to recognize ten outstanding journalists on Friday, October 6, 2023, as announced in a press statement by Mr. William Jalulah Nlanjerbor, the Regional Chairman of the Association.
A total of 17 award categories will be presented, with two radio stations also receiving recognition. Additionally, five honorary awards will be granted during the ceremony.
The ten journalists to be recognized at the event are:

- Castro Senyalah (Asaase Radio)
- Nicholas Azebire (Dreamz FM)
- Moses Apiah (A1 Radio)
- Simon Agana Blessing (Word FM)
- Joshua Asaah (A1 Radio)
- Chidozie Stephen (ApexNewsGh)
- Albert Sore (JoyNews & Joy FM)
- Nelson Abagna (GBC URA Radio)
- David Azure (A1 Radio)
The statement highlights the inauguration of a three-member Awards Vetting Committee on July 27, 2023, to oversee the awards.
The committee, led by Prof. David Millar, was responsible for receiving and evaluating entries submitted by journalists from the Upper East Region, covering work done from January 1 to December 31, 2022.
The awards ceremony, to be held under the chairmanship of Tongraan Kugbilsong Nanlebetang, the Paramount Chief of the Talensi Traditional Area and Regional Patron of the GJA, will also have the Minister for Information, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, as the Guest of Honour.
A delegation from the National Executive of the GJA, led by Mrs. Linda Asante Agyei, the Vice President of GJA, and Mr. Kofi Yeboah, General Secretary of the GJA, will be in attendance.
The statement expressed gratitude to various organizations and individuals, including WaterAid Ghana, Silas Amoah Foundation, AfriKids Ghana, MTN Ghana, Youth Harvest Foundation, Endswell Pharmacy, Great Victory Academy, Widows and Orphans Movement, and Participatory Action for Rural Development Alternatives (PADA), for their support.
The awards aim to acknowledge and celebrate excellence in journalism within the Upper East Region.
