Accra-based United Television (UTV) has strongly denounced the invasion of its studio by a group of thugs believed to be affiliated with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The incident occurred during the station's prime-time entertainment show, ‘United Showbiz,' on Saturday night.
The intruders disrupted the live program, threatened the host and her guests, and were later revealed to be led by the Klottey Korle Youth Organizer of the NPP, allegedly acting on the orders of Ernest Owusu Bempah, a Deputy Director of Communications, and other prominent figures within the party.
In response, UTV has affirmed its determination to remain undeterred by such unethical actions as an independent media outlet.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the station condemned the act of violence, emphasizing that it violated fundamental human rights, freedoms, and the independence of the media, as enshrined in the Constitution.
“We are deeply concerned about this event and are diligently taking all security and legal measures to prevent the reoccurrence of this unfortunate incident,” the statement read.
Furthermore, UTV expressed its commitment to maintaining its values and principles as an Independent Media House.
It asserted its priority to continue providing quality news and programs while ensuring the safety and security of all stakeholders. The station vowed to uphold an impartial and non-biased editorial stance and provide a safe platform for diverse views and opinions.
UTV took the opportunity to thank stakeholders for their support and assured its employees of a safe working environment.
