Traditional authorities in the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, situated in the Prestea Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region, have raised concerns over the closure of the mining company Future Global Resources.
In response, a four-member delegation of chiefs from the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area has submitted a petition to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, urging an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cessation of operations by the mining company.
Nana Nteboa Pra IV, Chief of Himan Presta, spoke on behalf of the delegation and expressed distress over the closure, citing the mining firm's alleged neglect of Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) in the area.
He voiced concerns about potential consequences such as unemployment and underdevelopment.
“We are here at your office to let you know that our community is in distress. We don't know the status of Future Global Resources, and we want to hear something positive from you,” Nana Nteboa Pra IV said.
