The Zoomlion Foundation, in partnership with the Accra College of Education, has initiated a program named ‘Agenda Zero Waste' aimed at addressing sanitation challenges in Ghana by involving teacher trainees as champions of environmental education.
During the launch of the initiative, Mr Robert Kwaku Adjei, speaking on behalf of Zoomlion Ghana Limited's Managing Director, Madam Gloria Anti, highlighted the company's commitment to nurturing a community of passionate individuals who will play active roles in sanitation efforts in the country. He emphasized that ‘Agenda Zero Waste' represents a significant step towards waste management and climate change mitigation.
The event, themed ‘Achieving Zero Waste: The Role of The Teacher Trainee in Combating Climate Change,' also marked the introduction of the Green Generation Champions, an environmental club for tertiary institutions.
Prof. Samuel A. Atintono, the Principal of Accra College of Education, underscored the importance of sustainable waste management in global climate change mitigation efforts, urging young teacher trainees to work towards achieving zero waste to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change and ensure a sustainable future.
Mr. Thomas Narh Korley, the National Coordinator of Zoomlion Foundation, reiterated Zoomlion's commitment to mobilizing youth and children to transform the sanitation landscape in Ghana. He emphasized the need for waste reduction, re-use, and recycling to prevent environmental and health hazards associated with landfill dumping.
Mr. Korley highlighted the importance of involving teacher trainees in the ‘Agenda Zero Waste' initiative, as they play a crucial role in educating children and youth about waste transformation into resources.
The initiative received praise from Mr. Richmond Adjei, the President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at Accra College of Education, who noted the significant impact of the collaboration with Zoomlion in addressing campus filth. He urged other tertiary institutions to adopt similar initiatives to promote good sanitation practices.
Zoomlion is providing training for the Green Generation Champions and resources for the implementation of the ‘Agenda Zero Waste' Project.
