Efforts by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to change the nationality of Brighton’s defender, Tariq Lamptey to play for Ghana is still in progress, despite earlier reports of a complete deal.
Highly placed sources at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) admitted that, even though the process toward the budding talent’s nationality switch was far advanced, it was yet to be completed. T
This comes on the back of recent reports suggesting that the player had completed his switch and was open for selection for the next Black Stars’ Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola in September this year.
However, sources at the GFA told the GNA Sports that, the process would take some time to complete, especially considering the situation at hand.
“It would have been the fastest nationality switch in history. People are only looking for trends and likes on social media, but nothing is official yet,” the sources told the GNA Sports. They added that: “Once it is official, it will be out.”
The right-back who plays for Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League has initially represented England at the youth levels.
It was also reported that the 21-year-old, who was born in England to Ghanaian parents recently declined an invitation to play for England’s U-21 following his decision to switch nationality and play for the Black Stars.
The Brighton defender was spotted at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium supporting the Black Stars to victory when Ghana hosted Madagascar in the 2023 AFCON qualifier.
