Tarkwa Forestry Commission to plant 300,000 trees to help restore lost forest
ShareTweetSend

To help restore Ghana’s lost forest, the Tarkwa Forestry Commission will be planting 300, 000 trees this year.

Mr Benjamin Kessie, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), led the exercise at the Fiaseman Senior High compound to commemorate this year’s Green Ghana Day.

He announced that last year, the assembly celebrated the day at the Ghana Manganese Company Limited (GMCL) premises at Nsuta Wassaw and the seedlings they planted had survived.

Mr Kessie explained that: “The programme, which was initiated by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo last year, was to mobilize and rekindle the spirit of restoring our degraded environment, adding,” the Climate is changing from good to bad and even to worse, so we need to restore the environment to sustain our very existence.”

According to the MCE, “Many disasters had occurred in this country because we do not adhere to the proper upkeep of our environment and sanitation, so, we are putting all these together to make sure that we live as human beings and claim the goods works the creator has made and we cannot do that when we do not have a clean environment,” he added.

Mr Kessie entreated the students to take good care of the trees they have planted because it would beautify the school’s compound and provide shade as well.

“Every household in Tarkwa-Nsuaem should cultivate the habit of planting trees. At least, if not for nothing at all, for our own survival.”

Mrs Evelyn Oduro Ampomah, Assistant District Manager of Forestry Services, Tarkwa Division, stated that “trees are important to our existence because they provide human beings with oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

She, therefore, advised the students to share the knowledge they have acquired on the importance of planting with their parents, siblings, and friends so that together they can protect the environment.
