The trial of two teenagers accused of killing Ishmael Mensah in for alleged money rituals began with the prosecution opening its case. Felix Nyarko and Nicholas Kini have been in custody since 2021 in connection with the of Mensah.

The trial was expected to start the previous week, but it was postponed due to the absence of a juror who had applied to recuse himself from the proceedings. However, the juror later rescinded his decision not to be part of the panel, and the prosecution was allowed to call its first witness.

Frank Mensah Abdallah, the father of the deceased, testified as the first witness. He recounted how his son had called him days before the incident, requesting that he return home. According to Mr Abdallah, his son said, “Daddy, it's been a while since you visited us, we miss you.”

This led him to travel from Krachi Nkwanta in the Region to to spend time with his family. However, a few hours after his arrival, his wife ran into the room shouting that Ishmael had been killed.

The witness claimed that he left the house to see his son's lifeless body in an uncompleted building. The father of the first accused then allegedly dragged Nyarko and Kini to the scene and asked them to confess to what they had done.

According to Mr Abdallah, the two accused persons then accused each other of being behind the killing.

The prosecution's case aims to prove that Nyarko and Kini intentionally killed Mensah for money rituals.
