Three communities get boreholes in Sissala East

Mr David Dimah, a visually impaired tutor of the Kanton Senior High School at Tumu in the Sissala East Municipality, has facilitated the provision of three boreholes to three deprived communities in the area.

Mr David said: “I got to hear of Bayorbojan through a discussion, they mentioned how the community lagged in terms of basic amenities so when the NGO asked me to look for communities, I thought of Bayorborjan as the focal person and the Fulani settlement.”

The Calvary Redemption Church Daban, with support from the Island Church & Barnabas R3, donated six boreholes to deprived communities in the Sissala East and Wa Municipalities at the cost of GH¢ 110,000.00.

At a short ceremony to present the borehole in one of the Sissala East furthest communities, Bayorborjan, 105 kilometres from Tumu, Rev Emmanuel Amoah, Bishop of the Calvary Redemption Church, dedicated the borehole and urged the people to put it to good use.

The community of Bayorborjan lacks most social amenities, including potable water, electricity, school and access roads while the only source of water is a dugout, which gets dry during the dry season.

Another Fulani settler community in Tumu and Santee also benefited from the borehole intervention.

While entreating the beneficiary communities to put the boreholes to good use, Rev. Amoah called on the authorities to extend help to the people and save the children’s future.

Kuro Dauda Bawa, the chief of the area, thanked the Church for saving them from drinking from a well for the past years, saying, “We lack so many things that other Ghanaians have, such as potable water, school, clinic, roads and even a feeder road.”

“Our children don’t go to school and when they fall sick there are no clinics for us to take care of them. Here is our hometown and we want the Government to think about us in spite of our numbers and the location, it’s our place of origin.

“Even this borehole, it’s the church that brought it to us, when it’s time for voting we have to go to Gwosi to vote and the majority here don’t participate in voting”, he lamented.

Kuoro Bawa said children above five years in the community had never stepped foot in school because there was no school closer to the community.

Madam Salamatu Dauda, an opinion leader of the community, appealed for a school and clinic for their wards to get educated and save them from those challenges.

Mr Jimbilia Aminu, Assistant Development Planning Officer at the Sissala East District, who spoke on behalf of the Municipal Coordinating Director, assured the people of the Government’s intention to extend social amenities to the area but said inadequate resources had hampered their efforts.
