Mr Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, the Western Regional Minister, has paid an unannounced visit to residents of the Appiatse Relief Camp at Dumase New-Site to ascertain the living conditions of the victims since their relocation.
He visited the various families and interacted with them to ask for their opinion on how life was treating them at their new home.
“I have spoken with the families, here concerning their living conditions and they have confirmed that they are happily living here”, he announced.
He also commiserated with those who were still at the hospitals receiving treatment and wished them a speedy recovery and thanked God for the lives of those who had recovered and also consoled with the families who lost their loved ones during the incident.
“I’m happy to see them living happily here. What I have seen here today tells it all – people playing cards and others pounding fufu with groundnut soup. We are also more than ready and committed to ensuring that the victims are well resettled”, he emphasized.
Mr Darko-Mensah also promised to liaise with the Local Committee to ascertain their needs and recommend the necessary action to take towards addressing the need to make sure that life in the Camp becomes comfortable.
However, he reiterated that all monies paid to the hospitals by the victims would be refunded to them, stressing that the government would foot all the medical bills of the victims and continue to provide them with relief items since the disaster was no fault of theirs.
