The Accra Sport Stadium will come alive on Saturday, December 10 this year as one of Africa’s finest Afrobeats artistes, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, known in showbiz circles as Wizkid, is set to stage his first-ever headline concert in Ghana.

Dubbed Wizkid Live, the night is expected to leave an indelible mark in the minds of more than 40,000 music lovers and enthusiasts who will throng the venue.

The Grammy Award-winning act who is also regarded as one of the biggest and most influential youthful international artistes will pull off a heroic performance and make a statement that will again crown him as an artiste with the capacity to sell out shows.

Performances

The Wizkid Live concert will give the audience the opportunity to enjoy his music with a two-hour non-stop performance with some of his repertoire, including Holla at your boy, Don’t dull, Essence and Call me every day.

Also billed to perform on the night are a number of Ghana’s premium talents, including R2Bees, King Promise, Eugy, Efya, Darko Vibes, Kelvyn Boy, Gyakie, as well as some surprise appearances by other giants in the music industry.

Preparation

The Director of Live Hub Entertainment, organisers of the event, Jeffrey Engmann, who spoke to the Daily Graphic in an interview said preparations were at the final stages.

“We are running through our routine security checks at the stadium and wrapping up on ticket sales. “The stage team from Rave, our production partners led by Ruddy Kwakye, have arrived safely and have hit the ground running,” he said.

Mr Engmann added, “Our stage is bigger and better than anything that has ever been experienced on Ghanaian soil, and we honestly cannot wait for the audience to experience our 360-stage setup. We’ve also confirmed a super special surprise international act.”

Distinctive qualities

Responding to why Wizkid was chosen for this concert, Mr Engmann said it was due to a number of his distinctive qualities.

“He is a celebrated African artiste doing great things on the continent and abroad, and at a special place in his career where he has the world’s eyes on him.

“Wizkid is very much loved in Ghana and the timing of this concert will give the audience a chance to soak in the new sounds of his new album called More Love, Less Ego,” he explained.

Additionally, he noted that among other qualities, Wizkid had the capacity to fill the stadium.

“Due to the extensiveness of his discography and the especially wide range of his supporters, he brings together both the young and the young at heart, Africans and Westerners alike, crafting a uniquely diversified audience,” he said.

Revolution

On his side, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Live Hub Entertainment, Chris Okantey Jr, added that his outfit hoped to revolutionise the future of live entertainment in Ghana and Africa at large.

“This is only the beginning of an epic series of high-quality live events across Africa powered by Live Hub Entertainment. We want to be inclusive of all areas of Ghanaian society and have a youth-focused social impact element to all our programmes,” he stated.

About Wizkid

Wizkid rose to fame after the release of Holla at your boy, a single from his debut studio album Superstar in 2011. He followed up with his second studio album, Ayo in 2014.

He signed a multi-album deal with RCA Records in 2017 after which he dropped his third studio album, Sounds from the Other Side. It had songs such as Daddy Yo, Sweet Love, Come Closer, African Bad Gyal and Naughty Ride.

Wizkid became the first Afrobeats artiste to appear in the 2018 Guinness World Records following his collaboration with Canadian rapper Drake on the song One Dance in 2016.

In 2019, he featured on American singer and songwriter Beyoncé’s project The Lion King: The Gift, with the song Brown Skin Girl. This won him a Grammy Award for Best Music Video.

His fourth album, Made in Lagos, was released in 2020 and he is currently the most streamed Nigerian artiste on Spotify, with over 3,485,993,216 billion streams across all credits.

Tickets sale

Tickets for the show are on sale currently on https://Wizkidlive.hapniin.com with various ticket offerings available, including general admission, VIP and Golden Circle.
