Mr. Dodzie Numekevor, the newly appointed Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to consider reinstating the annual Inter-Schools and Colleges games. Numekevor believes that reviving this event would play a crucial role in identifying and nurturing sporting talents across various disciplines in the country.
Speaking at the launch of the 2024 GNPC Ghana's Fastest Human competition, Numekevor emphasized the importance of collaboration between the GES and the Ghana Athletics (GA) to bring back the Inter-Schools and Colleges games. He pledged the NSA's support by providing facilities and staff for the competition, signalling his commitment to promoting sports development in Ghana.
Numekevor commended the organizers of Ghana's Fastest Human competition for their initiative and urged corporate bodies to throw their weight behind such events. He highlighted the significance of platforms like Ghana's Fastest in providing opportunities for young athletes to showcase their talents at both regional and national levels.
Meanwhile, Mr. Reks Brobby, the organizer of Ghana's Fastest Human competition, revealed plans for this year's event, which will cater to participants in the Under-15, Under-18, and Seniors above 18 categories. The competition will kick off at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale on May 11, followed by subsequent events at the Cape Coast Stadium on May 25, the Baba Yara Stadium on June 15, and the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra on June 29.
As a symbolic gesture, Brobby honoured three retired athletes, Ohene Karikari, Oko Addy, and Mike Ahey, who made significant contributions to local and international track events in the 1960s and 70s, presenting them with Adidas products.
