In a groundbreaking reality dating show, Showmax is set to take viewers on a journey of love, culture, and the search for lifelong connections.
“Bae Beyond Borders” brings together four South African women and a dozen Nigerian men, promising ten weeks of romance, friendships, make-ups, and heart-wrenching breakups.
The show, set to stream from 23 October, will unveil new episodes every Monday.
“Can love work beyond cultures?” is the question at the heart of “Bae Beyond Borders.” Showmax recently released a steamy trailer for this unique dating reality show, featuring four South African women in their quest to find love with Nigerian men.
They get to choose from a pool of twelve eligible bachelors from various walks of life. Online speed dating helps them collectively select eight men who impress them the most, leading to a face-to-face meeting in Nigeria.
From the eight favourites, each woman must pick just one man to take back to South Africa. They move into a luxurious villa in Cape Town to explore if their connection can withstand the challenges of culture and distance.
The ultimate question remains: will these four hopeful women find love beyond borders?
Meet the ladies participating in this extraordinary dating experiment:
- Zezethu Mniki (34), a Johannesburg resident, describes herself as an introvert with a passion for dressing up, makeup, and outdoor activities. She said, “My colleague is the one who made me aware that there was a dating show that was up my alley. As soon as I saw the ad, I knew that this was something I wanted to be a part of.”
- Nande Ramcwana (24), from the Eastern Cape, holds degrees in Local Government Finance and Public Management. Currently a YouTuber and social media influencer, she shared, “Entering this show changed my life for the better, there were so many lessons I got to learn about myself.”
- Malibongwe Gumede (31), a Midrand-based radio producer, spoke of the show's drama, saying, “People need to watch this show because it is super interesting, there are so many twists and turns and their jaws will be on the floor.”
- Vuvu Maseti (30), a makeup artist from Johannesburg, found the decision-making process challenging. She described herself as “an introverted extrovert” who is “attracted to intelligent, good-looking, tall men.” The show tested her decisiveness as she had to choose just one man.
The brain behind “Bae Beyond Borders” is Zinzi Velelo Alake, who also produced the hit reality show “The Mommy Club.”
Speaking about her inspiration, Zinzi shared, “I created this show because I found love beyond borders. I am a South African woman who fell in love with a Nigerian man, and blending our cultures has been life-changing, I found my king! The show was also created to unite Africans in love and to shine a light on a different kind of love that people usually do not get to see.”
“Bae Beyond Borders” promises to be an enthralling journey, showcasing the complexities and beauty of cross-cultural love and relationships. Don't miss it when it premieres on Showmax on October 23rd, as four South African women embark on their quest to find love beyond borders.
