The Babile Youth Development Association (BYDA) successfully conducted its inaugural inter-school quiz among junior high schools (JHSs) in the Babile Circuit, fostering a spirit of academic excellence and community involvement.
In collaboration with the Lawra Municipal Education Directorate, the BYDA organized the competition to motivate pupils, enhance their dedication to studies, and improve overall academic performance.
Mr. Gregory T. Tengzu, the Bipola Naa (Youth Chief) of Babile, emphasized the initiative's significance in encouraging children to prioritize education. He stated, “We thought that the quiz competition is one of the ways to let them appreciate the importance of learning.”
Addressing concerns about declining interest in education, Mr. Tengzu highlighted the importance of parental involvement, revealing that directives had been given to ensure children were indoors after 10 p.m.
The competition, designed to be an annual event, received a call for support from benevolent individuals and organizations to uplift youth education in the area.
Mr. Vitus Dapilah Kadoe, the Reagent of Babile, expressed excitement about the initiative and urged community members to embrace it for sustained educational improvement. He emphasized the need for collective support.
Mr. Addison Buure, the School Improvement Support Officer, praised BYDA's efforts and encouraged head teachers to engage students in similar competitions to enhance academic performance.
Additionally, Mr. Livinus Banabal Koglee, a Mental Health Officer from Babile Polyclinic, took the opportunity to sensitize students about mental health issues, emphasizing the role of responsible parenting and awareness in preventing mental illnesses.
Nine JHSs participated in the competition, with Brifoh M/A JHS emerging as the winner, followed by Babile “B” (second), and Biro M/A JHS securing the third position.
