The Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council (GNCFC) has undergone a significant leadership transition in the Volta Region, with the election of new executives to steer affairs in the region.
The Council, renowned for its unwavering commitment to matters concerning artisanal fishermen in the country and providing a platform to address their concerns and grievances, conducted the election to select key positions including Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Organizer, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Treasurer, and Financial Secretary.
Delegates from all 28 landing beaches in the region, totalling 55 members, participated in the electoral process to choose the officers.
Following a successful election, Mr. Doe Nkekeshie, the Chief Fisherman of Anloga, emerged as the Regional Chairman, while Mr. Abotsi Agbeko secured the position of Vice Chairman.
The newly elected executives also include Mr Victor Dzokoto as Secretary, Mr John Adjaho as the Organizer, and Mr Vance Kwaku Adedze as the PRO.
Notably, Mr Joshua Agbesudo Kaleawo and Mr Ekpe Honu Salah, who vied for the Treasurer and Financial Secretary positions respectively, ran unopposed.
Mr. Seth Kedey, the National Public Relations Officer for the Council, charged the new Regional Executives to zealously protect the interests of the fisherfolks in the region. He urged them to enforce laws and policies regulating activities in the sector.
In response, Mr Doe Nkekeshie, speaking on behalf of the newly elected executives, pledged their unwavering commitment to working collectively and providing the best possible support to the fishermen in the Volta Region.
With this new leadership in place, the Ghana National Canoe Fishermen Council aims to continue its mission of advocating for the welfare and advancement of artisanal fishermen, ensuring sustainable practices in the fishing industry.
