The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Majority Caucus in Parliament has dismissed alleged reports suggesting changes to its leadership at the front bench. Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu, the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai and First Deputy Speaker refuted the speculations during a press conference, stating that they were untrue.
Mr. Osei-Owusu emphasized the stability and unity among Caucus members, asserting that there had been no changes made to the leadership within the Majority caucus, nor were there any contemplations of such changes. He urged the public to ignore any such publications and expressed confidence in the current leadership, affirming that the status quo would remain.
Furthermore, Mr Osei-Owusu clarified that any decisions regarding leadership changes within the Majority Caucus would be made solely by the Caucus itself, emphasizing that the Caucus was unaware of any external attempts to alter its leadership.
The alleged reports had suggested potential changes in leadership roles, including the replacement of Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the current Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, by Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Deputy Majority Leader. It also speculated on changes to other key positions within the Caucus.
These purported changes were reportedly prompted by vacancies created due to recent developments, such as the nomination of Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the First Deputy Majority Chief Whip, as Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation. However, Mr Osei-Owusu's statement sought to dispel these rumours and reaffirm the unity and stability within the NPP Majority Caucus in Parliament.
