Over 5 million Ghanaian workers classified as multidimensionally poor - Ghana Statistical Service

The has released its 2022 Labour Statistics report which reveals that 5.4 million out of the 12.3 million Ghanaian workforce are tagged as multidimensionally poor, indicating that they are experiencing various forms of deprivation in their daily lives.

Multidimensional poverty includes poor health, lack of education, inadequate living standards, disempowerment, poor quality of work, the threat of violence, and living in areas that are environmentally hazardous, among other things.

The report revealed that 4.8 million of the 5.4 million persons are employed but lack access to good healthcare, and education, or may be working under poor conditions.

This situation could negatively impact the productivity of the workforce as well as the growth of the economy.

The majority of the multidimensional poor are employed but are receiving very low incomes, which explains why they cannot afford basic necessities of life.
