In response to a tragic boat incident that claimed the lives of nine students in Faanaa last year, Republic Bank has stepped forward to offer support by donating 50 life jackets to the Weija Gbawe Municipal Assembly for the local island community.
Madam Claudia Koranteng, Corporate Affairs Manager at Republic Bank, expressed the bank's condolences for the unfortunate incident and emphasized their commitment to community well-being, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Madam Koranteng highlighted the importance of the donation, noting that 25 students commute daily by boat to and from school.
The provision of life jackets aims to ensure their safety during these journeys.
While acknowledging that the donation is not a complete solution, Madam Koranteng assured ongoing support and collaboration with the community to address their needs effectively.
Mr. Charles Odoom, Municipal Director of Education for Weija Gbawe, received the jackets on behalf of the Assembly, expressing gratitude for the donation.
He emphasized the significant impact the life jackets would have on student safety, school attendance, and overall teaching and learning.
The tragic incident on May 11, 2023, serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of safety measures, and Republic Bank's contribution underscores their commitment to making a positive difference in the communities they serve.
